| Social & Cultural RDI MISSION To promote community-based organizations in their roles and responsibilities for the development of the Southeast Asian Communities. GOAL To assist refugees and families as a unit with cultural and social services in moving them toward a better life and a bright future. To promote the community development of the Southeast Asian refugee population of 150,000+ people in Harris County. HISTORY The Social & Cultural RDI was established by a group of refugees with twenty eight years of resettlement survival experience to identify the refugee challenge and to meet that challenge. The Social & Cultural RDI is a non-profit, tax-exempt community-based organization . The Social & Cultural RDI received its first state funding in 1994 and has grown dramatically since then. It has over 450 members which consist of a majority of young Vietnamese American professionals in Houston and in other states of the US and Canada. The VCSA's Headquarter is based in Houston, Texas and has chapters in Austin, Dallas, Texas; Memphis, Tennessee; and San Diego, California. VCSA's main goals are promoting harmony and cooperation amongst Vietnamese Americans, especially in the fields of Culture and Science, and providing a multi-faceted environment where young Vietnamese American professionals can exchange ideas, share skills and participate in the building of a strong Vietnamese-American community.
