Mr. Nguyen Nam Loc is currently the Director of Catholic Charities' Immigration and Refugee Department, one of the largest and busiest immigration and resettlement offices in the country, assisting an average of 10,000 people per year. During the last 28 years, Mr. Loc has participated in advocacy activities including congressional lobbying, community education and motivation, voter registration and has offered leadership for special social service committees and forums on the local, state, national and international levels. He is also actively involved in and supportive of Asian American candidates who have run for office Mr. Loc's community involvement also includes his assistance in organizing ethnic Mutual Assistance Associations for Cubans, Iranians, Armenians, Vietnamese, Laotian. Mr. Loc has received recognition and awards from: California Governors Pete Wilson & Gray Davis, California Senate Resolution #341, Senators Nell Soto & John Seymour, Congressman Howard L. Berman, California Assemblyman Antonio R. Villaraigosa & Ken Maddox, Cardinal Roger M. Mahony, Asian Pacific Family Center, United States Catholic Conference, U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services, County of Los Angeles, Vietnamese American Medical Research Foundation, and Vietnamese American Student Association. Mr. Loc is also accomplishment as a music composer. One of his famous songs is " Saigon , Vinh Biet" (Farewell Saigon) which gives expression to the experience of refugees and their quest for freedom. This song has been broadcasted to Vietnam and many other countries through BBC and VOA. It has also been recorded numerous times on cassette, CD and video tape, appeared in a novel and most recently in a full-length feature film called "Green Dragon," based on Loc Nguyen's early life as a refugee in America 28 years ago. This includes his experience in a refugee camp on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base. The film premiered in Beverly Hills and Costa Mesa , Los Angeles and Garden Grove on May 1st 2002 . Ms. Sherri Ly joined WTTG/FOX 5 as a reporter in September 2002, where she reports for the 10pm news weeknights. You can see her reporting live from the scene of breaking news or covering a wide array of stories. Shortly after arriving in October 2002, Sherri reported extensively on the DC area sniper shootings and later traveled on assignment for the trial of convicted sniper Lee Boyd Malvo. The station's coverage of the shootings and its team of reporters earned WTTG a prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. Prior to coming to Washington , DC , Sherri worked as a reporter and anchor in the Los Angeles area, San Francisco , and North Carolina . Her work has taken her across the country and back, reporting in the midst of wildfires, snowstorms and hurricanes. Her investigative work has also produced in depth reports on gang violence, diploma mills which produce fake degrees, and drug addiction and treatment. In Orange County , CA Sherri also covered weeks long protests and anti-communist demonstrations in Little Saigon. Sherri's mother is Vietnamese. She was born in Okinawa , Japan and grew up in Florida . She graduated from the University of Miami with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. In her spare time she enjoys sports, traveling and spending time with her husband and their baby girl. |
