What is the difference between TB infection and TB disease?

A person is infected with TB when M. tuberculosis are present in the body. The infected person does not show symptoms if the bacteria are inactive in tubercles, or lumps. In TB disease, the bacteria burst out of the lumps and attack tissues and organs. At this stage the bacteria are considered active and the infection is highly contagious.
