How is cervical cancer treated?

There are currently three standard treatment options: surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy:

•  Surgery can be done to remove cancer tissue if the cancer has not become invasive and attacked other organs.

•  Radiation uses x-rays to kill cancer cells and can be administered externally or internally, using devices to release radiation near the cancer site.

•  Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs, either taken orally or intravenously, to kill cancer cells. Patients may also request to participate in clinical trials of other treatment options.
