What is a Pap test?

The Pap test is a simple test in which a nurse or doctor takes a cell sample from the cervix using a small spatula, a brush or by squirting a liquid and drawing it into a syringe. The sample is then sent to a laboratory to be viewed under a microscope. The Pap test can detect abnormal cells is used to diagnose cervical cancer.
